Bohemia Interactive donates one million Czech koruna from Arma 3 Karts DLC sales to charity
Bohemia Interactive today announced that one million Czech koruna from the Arma 3 Karts DLC sales will be donated to the Czech Red Cross. Arma 3 Karts, which was originally revealed as an April Fools‘ joke, was released about one month ago as a fun little sidestep in Arma 3’s typically military sandbox. Its primary purpose was to test Arma 3’s experimental approach to DLC, which Bohemia Interactive explained in more detail in their recent devblog.
Whereas DLC (downloadable content) often fractures a game’s playerbase between those who own and those who do not own DLC content, Bohemia Interactive prepared a solution which prevents such a split in the Arma 3 playerbase. By making all DLC content available to all owners of Arma 3, while applying a few reasonable restrictions to those who have not purchased the DLC content, people remain able to play together in Arma 3’s multiplayer environment. This strategy was further explained in Bohemia Interactive's recent devblog, which also revealed that Arma 3 Karts would be the first DLC to launch under this concept. In addition, supporting the idea that Arma 3 Karts' primary goal would be to test the new DLC approach, the studio announced that a portion of the Karts DLC proceeds would be donated to the Czech Red Cross.
“Alongside helping us to evaluate Arma 3's new approach to DLC, with the backing of our community, Arma 3 Karts has managed to raise money for a great cause", said Jay Crowe, Creative Director on Arma 3. "A big thanks to our players, both for their support and their valuable feedback, which we'll use to refine our implementation. Overall, we're positive about the preliminary results and responses, which seems to benefit Arma 3 players and help sustain Arma 3 development.”
The Arma 3 Karts DLC will remain on sale for the relatively low price of 1.49 EUR / 1.99 USD / 1.19 GBP. It can also be purchased as part of the Arma 3 DLC Bundle, which includes the upcoming Helicopters and Marksmen DLC. The Arma 3 DLC Bundle, which saves people more than 25%, is available for 19.99 EUR / 24.99 USD / 16.99 GBP on Steam and Store.bistudio.com.
