Bohemia Recap – August 2024

August was a hot one, with temperatures soaring and records breaking and Bohemians working as hard as ever to deliver you the finest in video game fun.

DayZ released Experimental Update 1.26 on PC and Xbox, and took a step closer to DayZ Frostline in the process. We attended Gamescom in Cologne, Germany. Arma Reforger released a new series called Boots on the Ground. Meanwhile, the Arma 3 Creator DLC: Spearhead 1944 received a major content update that features, among other things, a new 64 km² terrain. Determined not to be left out of the fun, Vigor celebrated its 5th anniversary, and Ylands released version 0.95 of Ylands EDU.

There’s plenty to get to this time around, so let’s dive right into the latest stories!

DayZ

August brings us closer to DayZ Frostline. So does the release of Experimental Update 1.26 on PC and Xbox, which you can read about here. The update serves as support for DayZ Frostline, and also introduces some significant changes to major gameplay mechanics in the base game. Players on experimental servers can get a glimpse of what DayZ Frostline will look like. Check out this highlight video for a taste.

Our bi-weekly dev blog continues to pull back the curtain and offer the community an inside look at DayZ Frostline’s development. For weeks 32 and 34, we covered topics related to the new map ‘Sakhal’, including natural / hot springs, new sound design work, ice shelves, and more. The main highlight, of course, is the new mode of transportation in DayZ - boats. Have a look at the teaser below when you get the chance. For more detailed information regarding boats, check out our discussion in this dev stream.

In other news, we strengthened our DayZ community team with new member Marks, who will be spearheading our Dev Streams. Many of you in the community are already familiar with Marks’ work reporting on DayZ updates and various mod highlights. Stay tuned to our socials, as he will be hosting more Dev Streams on a regular basis.

In an effort to mark the first chill of early autumn, and to celebrate DayZ Frostline slowly appearing on the horizon, we've released our first Wallpaper of the Month featuring the snow-covered volcano of Sakhal. Don't forget to wishlist DayZ Frostline if you haven’t already! You can do so on Steam and on Xbox.

Arma Reforger

Members of the Arma Reforger team descended upon Gamescom in Cologne, Germany to meet up with journalists and share some exciting news about the future of the game on console! Project Lead Klamacz spoke with journalists about the upcoming release on PS5 and gave them a hands-on glimpse of an early build. The coverage was reported across various social media channels, as well as media outlets like arkaden.dk and gamereactor.eu.

We released the first episode of our new Boots on the Ground series, where the devs themselves dive into thrilling scenarios in Arma Reforger and chat about the new features in the latest release. Watch it here:

August also saw the release of a Minor Update that brought new optimizations and improvements to the game.

Finally, no month would be complete without our beloved Community Radar (COMRAD). This month was COMRAD #15, which showcases the latest and most impressive community content of the past few weeks.

Arma 3

Arma 3 Creator DLC: Spearhead 1944 received a major content update! Spearhead 1944 Update 1.1 deploys players to Mortain during Operation Lüttich (August 7-13, 1944), a major German counterattack during the Battle of Normandy. This new 64 km² terrain features unique objects and iconic landmarks such as the Mortain Church, Cambremont mine, and L'Abbaye Blanche. Players can take part in two new cooperative scenarios designed for up to 6 players. This update includes new weapons and vehicles (including variants), clothing and gear variants, playable factions, immersive German and French radio protocols, and much more.

You can learn more about the update by reading the Update 1.1 OPREP written by Heavy Ordnance Works. You can also watch the VOD of a live stream featuring the update's content, hosted by Arma Community Managers LeClair, Nillers, and members of Heavy Ordnance Works.

The Arma 3 Community Profile series returned in August as well, this time featuring community leader and content creator Chewie. Community Manager LeClair also attended a Spearhead 1944 gameplay session hosted by Chewie and friends and livestreamed it.

This wasn't the only community-hosted play session that LeClair livestreamed. The 101st Airborne (WW2) Milsim Unit invited LeClair and members of Heavy Ordnance Works to attend a re-creation of the Battle of Mortain from the American perspective. You can watch the VOD here.

Finally, we released another entry in our ongoing Arma 3 Mod Blogpost series, this time featuring a number of community wheeled and tracked vehicles from the past 11 years. We also released issue #47 of the Arma 3 Community Radar (COMRAD), which is filled with the best community content from August.

Vigor

We celebrated our 5th anniversary with a competition and a free gift in the form of a special animated weapon skin. We also held a 50% merch sale, a Booster Apocalypse featuring a special Anniversary Pack, and more.

In other news, we shared our appreciation of our community’s creations in a brand new Community Spotlight. Our Outlanders weren’t just busy creating content, however. They also celebrated La Tomatina with a special limited mode.

Closing out the month, we teamed up with our Partners and teased Eikevjen with some funny TikToks.

Ylands

We spent the majority of August preparing for upcoming update 2.4. Meanwhile, the experimental build is already live. Make sure to join our Discord so you don’t miss it!

We also released version 0.95 of Ylands EDU. This updated version introduces performance improvements, optimizes character selection, and squashes a number of pesky bugs.
