Bohemia Recap – June 2023

Temperatures are rising and vacations are in full swing, proving without a doubt that the dog days of summer are upon us. Not that it’s slowed us down at all, mind you.

Vigor released a brand new update and a fascinating new podcast, while Ylands kept the community engaged and continued prepping for update 2.1. DayZ announced changes to the day/night cycles in Chernarus and Livonia, and Silica continued to slay Early Access. And let’s not forget the massive overhaul coming to the vehicles in Arma Reforger, or the new Mac Port for Arma 3.

As you can see, there’s plenty to get to, so let’s dive in and beat the heat with the latest Bohemia Recap!

Vigor

We started June off with a Booster Apocalypse for Encounters which offered our Outlanders the opportunity to save up to 50% off Boosters. The fun continued soon after that with bi-weekly activities like our Community Corners, and Dev Streams.

Interested in seeing how our trailers are made? Then you should definitely check out this latest BTS video:

We love our team and think you will too. That’s why we’d like to direct your attention to our latest installment of Meet the Vigor Team. This time around we interviewed our programmer Mikel.

Ever wonder who’s responsible for all the great music in Vigor? Listen to our latest podcast with the game’s main composer, Keosz.

In other news, we released Update 15.1 which focused on fixes and improvements, held another Double XP Days, helped players beat the summer heat with some classy summer themed cosmetics, and made a few helpful server improvements.

Finally, we’d like to encourage everyone to join our TikTok! We’ve got lots of fun content planned. Plus you’ll be able to check out a swift Partner compilation, as well as a showcase of summer outfits.

Ylands

Last month we showcased Ylands at the Game Access conference in Brno.

Our Project Lead Aleš Ulm also delivered a fascinating lecture entitled “Bringing a Game Back From the Dead."

We hosted several fun activities on our Discord (which you should totally join if you haven’t already). One of the highlights that really stood out was when our Community Manager Anna joined playtime with devs and created some truly awesome stuff with our amazing community.

Speaking of our community, we kept everyone updated with our Dev Diaries, which saw us actively asking for feedback and leaking features players can expect to see in upcoming update 2.1.

If you’re looking for a helping hand, make sure to head over to our YouTube channel where we’ve been adding new tutorials. Don’t forget to subscribe as well, because we’ll be adding more tutorials in the following months.

Wrapping things up, we held a dev stream at the end of the month with our artist Filip. Watch as he reveals a few of the secrets behind Ylands’ visual design.

DayZ

We started June off with a dev stream featuring Video Artist Michal Staněk, who lent some insight into how DayZ teasers are made. Check out the highlights here:

Speaking of streams, we also hosted Scott Aaron Bowen. Watch as he embarks on a PlayStation gaming session, engages with the community, and drops a bit of info on some exciting surprises planned for DayZ’s upcoming update.

We continued to improve DayZ update 1.21 with hotfixes one and two, and announced that we’ll be enhancing the day/night cycle for both Chernarus and Livonia on all official servers. The change is based on player feedback and dev team playtests. We’ll continue to monitor player feedback, but are confident so far that the change will help improve the first-time user experience.

In social media news, we kicked off our summer competition #SummerWithDayZ, which encouraged the community to share photos of their outdoor vacation, along with a DayZ element of their choosing, for a chance to win a DayZ game key. Our TikTok game also remained strong as we shared Playtest Shenanigans, a Dev Chicken Hunt, and proof that not everything can be an album cover.

We love our community more than anything, which is why we came up with some engaging posts, including Children's Day, Father’s Day, Gaming Adventures, and Team Up, And if that wasn’t enough, we also shared our Monthly Wallpaper and highlighted the community’s creative side in our latest Community Spotlight.

Arma Reforger

We released a long and meticulous article regarding server authoritative vehicles. The architecture of the vehicles is about to change and the article goes a long way in explaining the intricacies involved in the massive overhaul.

We also updated the Arma Reforger experimental app, this time branching to 0.9.9.31. Have a look at our article which includes important information for modders and players, as well as the longest changelog yet.

Arma 3

June was another huge month for Arma 3, thanks to a new Mac Port update, a new version of the immensely popular S.O.G. Prairie Fire CDLC, and a plethora of amazing community content!

The new, 2.12 version of the Arma 3 Mac Port was released, bringing support for Apple Silicon (M1 and M2) chips, cross-play compatibility with Windows, and full DLC support for Mac users. We’re extremely proud to further expand access to Arma 3 to Mac users and we have received overwhelmingly positive feedback so far.

In CDLC news, the 1.3 update of Arma 3 Creator DLC S.O.G. Prairie Fire was released, bringing new weapons, vehicles, factions, gear, campaigns and more to an already stunning and immersive military simulator experience. If you want to experience the conflict in Vietnam in the most authentic way possible, this is the CDLC for you.

For the S.O.G. Prairie Fire 1.3 release, Arma Community Manager LeClair conducted a Developer Play Session Live Stream with members of Savage Game Design and special guests featuring the newly updated MIKE Force multiplayer scenario. You can check out a recording of the live stream on Twitch or on YouTube.

We had another great month of fantastic community content. Have a look at the highlights in COMRAD #39 and be sure to read our interview with longstanding pillar of the Arma community - Viper1Zero.

Hope you soldiers are having a relaxing summer. Stay tuned for more Arma updates!

Silica

We kicked off the month by showcasing Silica at Game Access in Brno. Huge congratulations go out to Dram for winning the VisionGame Editorial Award! Dram gave a talk at the conference as well, where he explained the challenges he encountered while combining the RTS and FPS genres. If you were unable to attend Game Access and would like to learn more about Silica, you’ll be happy to know that we turned Dram’s talk into an informative interview.

Want to learn what’s in store for Silica during Early Access? Then make sure to check out the video below and read this short but useful blog post.

In other news, Silica t-shirts are now in stock! We also released a Silica Synopsis, along with four game updates. Check out Silica on Steam for all the latest info.

And finally, we couldn’t be prouder of the fact that Silica is a product of Bohemia Interactive’s Incubator, where good ideas become fantastic games. Learn more about how the Incubator helped Silica and about the Incubator itself.
